And now we get into the very controversial picks. Gabriel Martinelli suffered tremendously throughout the 2023/24 season, producing an underwhelming return following a record-breaking campaign the year before. He had moments where he looked back to his best during the 2024/25 season, but ultimately struggled to find consistency in front of goal.

Arsenal are reported to be in the market for a top winger this summer with Nico Williams and Rodrygo among the names linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium. Both would be great additions to the club, but are unlikely to come without a cost.

The Gunners' number 11 has been a great servant to the club since joining from the Brazilian fourth division in 2019 and despite some inconsistency, he is regarded as Arteta's first-choice left winger. However, that may not be the case if either Williams or Rodrygo are brought to the club.

Both targets and Martinelli are far too good to be demoted to backup options and that could bring about some toxicity within the club. Bringing another world-class winger to north London will be part of Arteta's plan to be able to rotate his side more often, but in order to be consistent, there will be a cemented first-choice option.

Neither Martinelli or either reported option would be prepared to be a second-choice winger for long and that would be justified. With that potentially bringing tension to the squad, Arsenal must consider selling Martinelli if they are to sign another world-class winger this summer.
