A little over a year ago, Kai Havertz had just completed a fine first season in north London, leading the Arsenal attack during the title run-in during the second half of the campaign. However, he now finds himself potentially surplus to requirements as the Gunners search the market for a world-class striker to be the new spearhead of their attack.

Numerous barren runs in front of goal and a practically season-ending injury proved Havertz won't be able to lead Arsenal's attack forever and while he did finish the 2024/25 campaign as his side's top goalscorer, the club's plans to target a reliable and prolific striker are still a priority.

If the Gunners succeed in bringing a new centre forward to the Emirates, Havertz will no longer be his side's first-choice man up top. He could move back into his original position as a midfielder, but with Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and expected newcomer Martin Zubimendi among the suitable names already filling that position, he may not fit in.

Regardless of overcrowding in the midfield, Havertz didn't exactly perform well in the position so that could rule him out of playing there anyway. That does leave him in a difficult place in terms of fitting into the squad.

He could be utilised as a second-choice striker or even as a backup midfielder, but that isn't an ideal use of a player who the club splashed £65m on just two years ago. With him now being branded a pointless signing and the risk of him having no cemented place in the team amid expected incomings at the club, Arsenal should consider selling Havertz this summer.
