Kang-in Lee could be a player Arsenal target in the January transfer window, according to a report by David Ornstein for The Athletic.
The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder is said to be considering his options at the club despite having been a regular feature in Luis Enrique's side. The Ligue 1 champions are not actively looking to sell Lee as they rate him highly both on and off the pitch. While a burgeoning talent, the South Korean star is also a huge draw for the Asian market.
With PSG likely to want at least double the €22m they splashed to sign Lee from Mallorca in 2023, a permanent deal doesn't seem feasible this month. However, Ornstein claims that if the French side are willing to consider a loan with a buy option, Arsenal may be prepared to negotiate.
With that in mind, there are four reasons why the Gunners should target Kang-in Lee.
1. Versatility would help out
Primarily an attacking midfielder, Kang-in Lee has also been deployed on both wings and up front. With the Gunners in need of some reinforcement in each of those areas, Lee's versatility supports the idea of a potential deal.
With Bukayo Saka, Ethan Nwaneri and Raheem Sterling all currently unavailable through injury, Arsenal are without a viable right winger option. Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli have both been used in the position, but neither have really done what is required. The signing of Lee would present Mikel Arteta with another option that he can rely on while others are injured. Even when Saka and co return, Lee would still provide competition, preventing any sense of complacency among the right-wing options.
It's a similar case on the opposite flank. Regular left-wing options Martinelli and Trossard have both underwhelmed this season. The signing of Lee would give Arteta that extra option to rely on if his first two choices aren't performing well.
Having initially impressed upon his return from injury, Martin Odegaard has struggled in recent weeks and has not been up to the standard he has previously set. The signing of an attacking midfielder in Lee would provide competition for the skipper, prompting him to raise his performance levels.
Lee has played as a striker (as a false nine) and as a result, could be the man Arsenal sign to rectify their goalscoring problems. His versatility would certainly help the Gunners out and offer them solutions to a number of positional issues.
