2. David Raya penalty heroics
Perhaps the true standout moment from our nearly year, and coming from a man who began 2024 under great scrutiny.
David Raya displaced Aaron Ramsdale in 2023/24 and made several big errors during those first few months, including a poor clearance at Lens, moments of hesitation vs Man City and two major errors against Luton Town.
Yet 2024 featured a new Raya and he showed everyone just why Arteta was so keen to bring him in – the highlight being his penalty shootout display vs FC Porto in our Champions League last 16 tie back in March.
He got Arsenal up and running with an excellent stop to deny Wendell (helped by the post) before he sealed a quarter-final by saving Galeno’s effort, marking our first time to reach that stage of the UCL since 2010.
Amid all the question marks, Raya stepped up when it mattered and cemented his status as the new no. 1.
