Former Arsenal man Kieran Gibbs has offered a fresh perspective on the club's remainder of the season after the loss to Southampton in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Arsenal's 2-1 loss to Southampton was shocking, to say the least, especially after losing the Carabao Cup in their last game before the international break.

Arsenal now have a fresh competition to look forward to, as well as a way to get back to winning ways in much-needed fashion, as they face Sporting in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Gibbs, speaking after Arsenal's loss, offered a fresh perspective on their season now.

He said: “In terms of the overall picture in terms of the rest of the season do I think this is going to derail them? No, I don’t think it will. If ever there was a time to have these performances in the last couple of games with these results the time is now.

“Moving forward, I think the club have to get back to the performances we’ve seen that have got them this far in terms of being dangerous from set pieces and that creativity that has been lacking, we need to find it.

“There are enough players in this squad to cause any team in Europe big problems. I’m sure once we see Declan Rice come back into the line-up, things will start to sure up defensively and there will be less holes in the midfield.”

Gibbs' statement is largely to the point. The club has to move on and start doing what made them great again. It is the only thing that will resort peace to North London, and that is exactly what Arsenal need.

They need continuity. They need to go back to their principles, look at what made them so unbeatable at the start of the season and really work on that.

However, it is also true that maybe it is not the best time to lose now. Maybe it would have been better for them to lose a game earlier in the season rather than lose momentum in the business end of it.

Those things are really important to note. However, his point about these two losses not derailing Arsenal's season is right. This club is making winners as we speak. They are very close to writing their name in the history books forever. If that does not give them enough momentum and motivation to get past this hurdle, nothing else will.

Arsenal need to get back to winning ways, and to do that, they definitely should look at the title race as a motivation, not as a cause of nervousness and stress.
