Arsenal ended their pre-season tour of Asia with a disappointingly tame 1-0 defeat to North London rivals Tottenham at the Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong

The Gunners went into the first North London Derby to be played outside of the UK on the back of two pre-season victories against Milan and Newcastle respectively.

Mikel Arteta replaced Ethan Nwaneri with captain, Martin Odegaard for the last match of the Asian tour while Miles Lewis-Skelly returned at left-back. It didn't take Odegaard long to get in amongst the action.

Still inside the first minute, a poor clearance by the Spurs goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario, was knocked back into the danger zone where Odegaard had a shot deflected high and wide.

From the resulting corner Odegaard's mis-hit volley from the edge of the box bounced up off the turf and was headed wide by Saliba from just outside the six yard box.

Arsenal up against it as Tottenham hit the post twice

Arsenal nearly conceded after ten minutes when Pedro Porro's low corner crept along the goalline and struck the far post. Richarlison was unable to make anything from the rebound.

After a ten minute period of Tottenham possession, David Raya launched his second long ball of the match for Kai Havertz to flick on for Declan Rice running in behind. But Rice was closed down quickly as he tried to get his shot away.

Tottenham hit the post for the second time on 27 minutes when Wilson Odobert picked the ball up on the left just inside the Arsenal penalty area. Odobert's low shot grazed Ben White's boot before hitting the outside of the far post with David Raya beaten.

Arsenal went behind on the stroke of half-time when Pape Sarr dispossessed Lewis-Skelly in the centre-circle before lobbing the ball over the quickly retreating Raya from close to half-way.

Arsenal remained unchanged after the break

Arsenal remained unchanged after the break and looked a little better. Probing down both flanks, Martinelli and Saka both created problems in the final third.

On 58 minutes, Miles-Skelly showed his strength to hold on to the ball in midfield before popping a ball into the feet of Havertz who teed up Martinelli about 12 yards out. The Brazilian fluffed his lines, blazing high over the bar when he should really have done much better.

Spurs nearly doubled their lead on 66 minutes when Mathys Tel delivered a great cross despite the close attention of Odegaard which van de Ven headed wide when it seemed easier to score.

Zubimendi replaced Norgaard moments later and Trossard replaced Martinelli in two like-for-like substitutions.

Arsenal proceeded to push much higher up the pitch with both full-backs getting into advanced positions more frequently than they did throughout the first half.

Zubimendi troubles the goalkeeper with a dipping effort

Zubimendi forced Vicario to tip a dipping shot around the post for a corner which came to nothing.

After the cooling break, Arsenal fans were given their fist chance to see Viktor Gyokeres and Christhian Mosquera in action as they came on for Havertz and Kiwior repectively. Dowman, Zinchenko, and Merino were all given minutes in a staccato last ten minutes.

Concerningly, Leandro Trossard limped off with five minutes remaining giving Reiss Nelson another opportunity to impress the manager albeit under the shadow of an expected exit this summer.

Zubimendi snatched at a shot from the edge of the penalty area when greater composure might have seen him test the keeper.

Six minutes of injury time allowed Arsenal time to launch three more promising attacks with the latter resulting in a foul by Porro on Nelson presenting Arsenal with a free-kick in a dangerous area. Sadly for Arsenal, Odegaard's free-kick was easily dealt with before the referee called time on a disappointing defeat for the Arsenal.

Here are the Arsenal player ratings from their 1-0 friendly defeat by Tottenham.

Goalkeeper & Defenders

David Raya (GK) - 5/10 - Failed to deal with in-swinging corners on two occasions almost costing Arsenal dearly. Distributed well on the whole, picking out Havertz with direct long balls. Made a poor decision to give the ball short to Lewis-Skelly and was subsequently caught way off his line for Tottenham's winning goal.

Ben White (RB) - 5.5/10 - Found himself high up the pitch in the second half but had a relatively poor game. Gave the ball away with some wayward passing in the first-half and Odobert gave him a torrid time in defensive situations.

William Saliba (CB) - 7/10 - Another sound performance from one of Arsenal's better players on the day. Probably should have converted an early headed chance. Dominated in the air and looked excellent in possession. Looked even better when partnered with Mosquera.

Jakub Tiwior (CB) - 5/10 - His mistake led to Odobert's chance in the first-half when he failed to deal with a bouncing ball. Looked awkward in possession but was typically strong in the challenge.

Myles Lewis-Skelly (LB) - 6/10 - Poor decision making in the central midfield possession cost his team a freakish goal amid strong arguments that he was fouled as he was dispossessed.
