Arsenal secured a dramatic 1-1 draw against Manchester City as a stoppage time goal ensured they took a point from a lacklustre performance.

Mikel Arteta opted to bring Leandro Trossard into the starting XI after he scored the second goal in Tuesday's 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao. Eberechi Eze dropped to the bench as a result and was joined by Bukayo Saka among the substitutes as he made his return from injury.

It was City who struck first when Erling Haaland was put through on goal by Tijjani Reijnders before beating David Raya with a neat finish from the centre of the box. The visitors went close to doubling their lead when Reijnders struck from the edge of the area, but Raya got down well to save.

The Gunners began to trouble the City backline as the half went on with Noni Madueke among those to have a half chance. However, they couldn't pull themselves level before the break and went into half-time a goal down.

Arteta made two changes ahead of the second half, bringing Madueke and Mikel Merino off for Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze.

The latter almost had an instant impact when he called Gianluigi Donnarumma into action with a shot from the edge of the box. He chested down a clearance before striking on the half volley, but the Italian saved well.

Haaland then nearly grabbed his second as he worked his way toward the Gunners goal with Phil Foden in support. He opted against playing Foden and looked to beat Raya at his near post, but the Spaniard kept it out.

As Arteta rolled the dice with more changes, it looked as if time was running out for Arsenal, but they managed to save themselves in stoppage time. Eze played a brilliant ball over the top of the City defence for Gabriel Martinelli to latch onto. The Brazilian set himself before lobbing Donnarumma with a perfectly taken dink.

That spurred the Emirates crowd on, but despite momentum being in their favour, Arsenal couldn't find the winner and were forced to share the spoils in a game that didn't live up to expectations.

The draw leaves the Gunners sat in second place behind Liverpool and ahead of Tottenham on goal difference. Their attention now turns to the Carabao Cup with a trip to Port Vale awaiting in the third round.

Here are the Arsenal player ratings from their 1-1 draw with Man City.

Goalkeeper & Defenders

David Raya (GK) - 6.5/10 - Not much he could do about Haaland's opener, but redeemed himself when denying the Norwegian in the second half.

Jurrien Timber (RB) - 6/10 - Couldn't have the same attacking impact as usual and was troubled by Doku's runs down the flank. Shown a yellow card before being taken off late on.

William Saliba (CB) - 6/10 - Returned to the starting XI following his comeback from injury, but his lack of match fitness showed at times. He struggled occasionally when coming up against Haaland.

Gabriel Magalhaes (CB) - 6/10 - Like his partner, he found it slightly difficult battling with Haaland, but could be seen having a few goes at the Norwegian off the ball.

Riccardo Calafiori (LB) - 5/10 - Looked slightly shaky at left back and was guilty of making a number of rash challenges. Was lucky not to be booked throughout the 90 minutes.
