Arsenal came from behind to beat Tottenham 2-1 on Wednesday night as they capitalised on a great chance to keep the pressure on league leaders Liverpool.
Mikel Arteta made a flurry of changes ahead of the game with the likes of Declan Rice and Raheem Sterling coming into the side. Despite a good performance against Manchester United, Gabriel Martinelli dropped to the bench.
The Gunners dominated the opening 25 minutes, causing an array of problems for the Spurs defence, but it was the visitors who struck first. A Tottenham corner was cleared only as far as Son Heung-Min on the edge of the box whose deflected effort beat David Raya to make it 1-0.
Despite being on the backfoot, the momentum continued to sway in Arsenal's favour and that paid off five minutes before half-time. A Declan Rice corner went all the way to the back post where Radu Dragusin, under pressure from Gabriel Magalhaes, knocked the ball onto Dominic Solanke who put it in his own net.
Arsenal turned the tables in their favour minutes later with Martin Odegaard winning back possession before setting up Leandro Trossard. The Belgian took it forward before striking a great effort into the far corner to put his side ahead at half-time.
Mikel Arteta's side kept the pressure on Spurs after the break but couldn't grab a third goal. The visitors pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but some good defending helped Arsenal see out the victory.
The win puts the Gunners back in second having temporarily fallen behind Nottingham Forest. They are now four points behind leaders Liverpool with an extra game played but are certainly keeping the pressure on their title rivals.
Here are the Arsenal player ratings from their 2-1 win over Tottenham.
Arsenal 2-1 Tottenham player ratings
Goalkeeper & Defenders
David Raya (GK) - 6.5/10 - Nothing he could do about Son's deflected opener but will be disappointed not to have kept a clean sheet. Acted well as a sweeper keeper but wasn't called upon much.
Jurrien Timber (RB) - 6.5/10 - Quiet game from the Dutchman. Linked up well with Sterling but didn't offer too much. Helped out in defence.
William Saliba (CB) - 7/10 - Wasn't as formidable as his partner but he was solid at the back. Battled well with the opposition attackers to minimise their threat. Did well to lead a late counter attack as his side pushed for a third.
Gabriel Magalhaes (CB) - 8/10 - Did his job brilliantly at the back and helped keep Tottenham's attacks to a minimum. Made a great tackle to deny Solanke a certain goal and then forced the pressure on Dragusin for Arsenal's equaliser.
Myles Lewis-Skelly (LB) - 8/10 - Really solid performance on the left side of defence. Kept Kulusevski quiet and got the fans riled up when he battled with the Tottenham players before being subbed off.
