Arsenal was again left lamenting missed chances in a 1-1 draw with Everton.
Arsenal and failing to take goal-scoring opportunites. Stop me if you've heard this before this season.
The 1-1 draw against Everton again shone a light on the Gunners' need for a quality attack to tuck away some of the chances created as Arsenal dropped two points in a game where it should have won three.
Leandro Trossard opened the scoring after 34 minutes with a well-taken effort to send the Gunners on their way, but "that" penalty incident with Myles Lewis-Skelly undone the good work as Iliman Ndiaye converted from the spot to get the hosts back on level terms.
Missed chances cost Gunners...again
With the Gunners huffing and puffing, Mikel Merino had a guilt-edged chance to head his team into the lead, but his effort went wide, Gabriel Martinelli stung the palms of Jorden Pickford as Arsenal was forced to settle for a draw in a game, that had they had a quality striker, it might have won at a canter.
In total 14 shots (five on target) for the Gunners and just five from Everton (two on target) along with 71 percent possession tells the story of Arsenal once again dominating proceedings but failing to properly take advantage of it.
“I think we deserved more, but that's what we got at the end at a really tough place to come,” Arteta said via arsenal.com. “We were 1-0 up, had some big opportunities, going into spaces - we didn't finalise the action in the second half.”
We tend to agree, Mikel.
As we have said far too many times this season, on another day, this would have been a three or four goal win, but such is the state of the side and the lack of attacking players to rotate through, things get tough.
Still, Arsenal is second in the Premier League table despite all of the injuries, so that can't be overlooked but considering the team had title aspirations, this isn't what the club wanted.
With seven league games left, the Gunners are in a strong position to again finish in the top four and claim a Champions League spot, but that wasn't the goal this year.
The draw at Everton earned a point for Arteta's side, but once again, it should have been more, and had it been for a quality striker, it likely would have.
