Arsenal have made calls to be informed on the situation of Ajax defensive starlet Jorrel Hato, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners, along with Chelsea, are reported to have made initial contacts with the 36-time Eredivisie champions as they both look for a top defender after missing out on a deal for the now Real Madrid player Dean Huijsen.

Mikel Arteta's side have held long-term interest in the Netherlands international and appear to have reignited it as they go on the hunt for a new defensive addition during the summer transfer window.

A potential deal is no where near to being advanced, but it is a positive sign that Arsenal have taken the first steps in exploring a possible move for Hato.

As they look to strengthen their squad with another defender, the Gunners have done well to kickstart discussions for a top player, especially after missing out on the talent that is Huijsen.

Hato is just 19-years-old, but has already had quite the career, making 111 appearances for Ajax since making his first team debut during the 2022/23 season. He has also played for the Netherlands national team six times.

Not only has Hato impressed as a youthful part of Ajax's squad, he has also made his mark as a leader. The defender has already captained his boyhood club, leading them out against AEK Athens in December 2023 at the age of 17, becoming the Dutch side's youngest ever captain.

He would be a great signing for Arsenal, with his ability to play both as a centre-back and a left-back proving extremely useful for Arteta. However, it may be difficult to convince him to make the move with him likely searching for a team that can provide him regular first team football. Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba are solidified as the Gunners' starting centre back duo so Hato would have to fight to break into the side.

Talks are expected to progress in the coming weeks and while Arsenal will have a tough task ahead if they are to convince him to come to north London, getting a deal over the line will be absolutely brilliant for the club.
