Arsenal benching Bruno Guimaraes against Leeds is the right move

Bruno Guimaraes has been a great signing for Arsenal, but he's yet to get into a consistent rhythm of starts for the club. Unfortunately, that won't change anytime soon, as Myles Lewis-Skelly is more deserving of the start against Leeds this weekend.

Overall, Lewis-Skelly has had a better start to the season than Arsenal's new signing. Granted, he's had more opportunities to prove himself to Mikel Arteta, but the gaffer would argue that Lewis-Skelly has earned those opportunities.

Leeds will approach Arsenal the same way Brighton did

Similarly to how Brighton shocked Arsenal, Leeds set up in a similar midfield fashion to the Seagulls. It shouldn't be as concerning for Arteta, though, because he can learn a thing or two from that Brighton game.

Against Brighton, Bruno Guimaraes was awful. Let's call it what it is - he was Arsenal's worst player on the day.

I have never been an advocate for making rash decisions after just one game. I don't think Arteta is the type of guy to do that, either. By benching Bruno this weekend, it wouldn't be a punishment - it would be a protection.

Bruno has an incredibly high work rate, and it's quite respectable. He is also press-resistant, even despite what the Brighton anomaly would suggest. While he is capable of dealing with the inevitable midfield overhaul Daniel Farke's Leeds will bring, Lewis-Skelly remains the better option.

Myles Lewis-Skelly is Arsenal's catalyst for the Leeds game

Much like his Brazilian counterpart, Lewis-Skelly is as press-resistant as they come. However, the main element of his game is his ability to bring the ball forward with purpose and with a striking sense of ease.

This is what Arsenal need more than ever against Leeds. They don't need to invite pressure; they need to bring the pressure themselves. This was missing against Brighton, and it cost them big time.

Lewis-Skelly was involved in the midfield for England, and we saw yet again the type of service he can provide in the midfield. His confidence will be sky high right now, and look, he deserves to be starting for Arsenal, even with the star-studded names he is competing against.

Bruno Guimaraes remains a great asset from the bench

The argument is that Bruno Guimaraes shouldn't start against Leeds, but he could still play a valuable role.

We saw when he came off the bench against Sunderland the type of game he can have when he's playing against pre-exhausted players. Heck, we wouldn't put it past him grabbing his second Premier League goal for Arsenal this weekend.

It is taking the Brazilian midfielder some time to find his groove in the Arsenal lineup, but it's through no fault of his own. Mikel Arteta has Arsenal operating within a meritocracy - Bruno has a big name, but he is not owed a spot in this Arsenal team.

The meritocracy has Bruno and Lewis-Skelly trying their hardest to make the 11, which can only mean good things for Arsenal supporters. At the moment, Lewis-Skelly is winning the race between the two.
