Arsenal are close to agreeing a contract extension with Leandro Trossard, and the Gunners are willing to retain the 30-year-old for another four years.

Trossard's current deal expires next summer, and it seems as if the club want to avoid potentially losing the Belgian international for free.

The winger joined the club in a low-key winter transfer two years ago after priority target Mykhaylo Mudryk signed for Chelsea. Arsenal sent £27m Brighton's way to bring Trossard to north London, and the Belgian has proven to be one of the Gunners' shrewdest bits of business of modern times.

He's recorded 50 goal contributions in 122 games for the club, with a chunk of his appearances arriving off the bench. Trossard's gained a reputation in north London for his ability to produce off the bench, and he may well have earned a statue outside the Emirates had Arsenal gone on to win the Premier League title given his excellent run of form during the run-in.

Trossard's availability means he's typically been included in Mikel Arteta's starting XI this term, with the Spaniard utilising the experienced forward in several roles. He's functioned down the left and up top as a fluid false nine and also supplied creative mitigation when Martin Odegaard was nursing an ankle injury in the autumn.

He's notched 15 Premier League goal contributions and added another four in the Champions League this season.

The Belgian remains a handy asset, and Arsenal seemingly want to retain him as he veers towards his twilight. According to Football Insider, the Gunners are in 'advanced talks' with Trossard over a new four-year deal, which would expire in 2030.

All parties are confident over reaching an agreement.

Trossard garnered interest from the Saudi Pro League off the back of his impressive end to 2023/24, but Arsenal turned down any advances. Al Ittihad reportedly offered the Gunners just over £30m to sign the forward.

If Trossard commits to Arsenal for the long-term, he can't expect to play such a significant role as Arteta's project continues to evolve. The club are in the market for attacking reinforcements this summer, with a new number nine as well as a couple of wide players expected to join the club. If Arsenal are willing to keep the 30-year-old, does that mean they're willing to listen to offers for Gabriel Martinelli?

I'm not massively convinced tying down Trossard for another four years is the right decision. It's the sort of move the club made and regretted before and at the start of Arteta's reign.
