Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign a scout who unearthed a treble winning superstar a few years ago, according to a report by Sami Mokbel of the BBC.
There is always a conversation about how Arsenal can improve as a club.
One of the ways they can do that is improve their scouting department even further, so that they are able to unearth superstars for not too much money, and then would be able to keep them or sell them on for a big price if they are surplus to requirements.
That is exactly what they are aiming to do with this move.
According to the journalist, the Gunners are trying to appoint Maurizio Micheli, who is currently serving as Napoli's head of scouting, into a leading recruitment position.
Micheli was credited for Napoli signing Kvicha Kvaratskhelia
Micheli was the person who found players like Marek Hamsik, Kvicha Kvaratskhelia and Kim Min-Jae for Napoli. Kvaratskhelia has since gone on to win the treble with Paris Saint-Germain, and is easily a superstar in his right.
One of the best left-wingers in world football at the moment, Kvaratskhelia was balling out in Georgia (as well as Russia, initially) when Napoli discovered him in 2022.
Immediately after signing the player, there was an immediate impact at Napoli, and he went on to win the Serie A with the club in his first season, scoring 12 goals and winning the Most Valuable Player award for that season.
Obviously, it is tough to unearth talents like Kvaratskhelia on a daily basis, but that is where Arsenal are thinking of getting some help.
Their youth teams are already exceptional, and they have signed players of good profiles in the last few years, but there is a lot that they can still improve on as a club, and I guess scouting and unearthing non-English talents is one of them.
Out of the non-English players they have at the moment, only three players were brought into stardom or superstardom by Arsenal. Gabriel Martinelli - if you count him as a star - was a result of some great scouting.
Gabriel was great before signing for Arsenal, but he only became one of the greatest centre-backs in world football after joining the club, which showed how smart of a purchase it was for just 27 million pounds.
William Saliba was a similar purchase, as he was signed for a similar amount of money but only became a superstar defender after joining Arsenal.
There are other players who could be on their way to becoming legitimate superstars in the long run, but there is always something you can improve on if you get someone like Micheli as a head of recruitment.
You will inevitably get a lot of experience and knowledge from someone who has found some really good gems in European football, and if Arsenal are able to get him onboarded, he will be a good asset for the club.
