An Arsenal contract rebel, who is only tied down until 2025, has been linked with a shocking transfer to Barcelona. Does it make sense for Arsenal?

One player who has seen an increase in his playing time this season is Thomas Partey. In fact, the Ghana international has started every Premier League game so far this season.

Arsenal have yet again had a terrific start to the season. In fact, they are just one of two Premier League teams who remain undefeated in the opening seven games.

The Gunners also beat Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League, showing they are firing on all cylinders. Therefore, the players have caught the attention of Europe's most elite sides.

Arsenal contract rebel linked to shocking Barcelona transfer

According to a report from Spanish outlet Sport, Barcelona would like to sign Thomas Partey on a pre-contract agreement in January. This would see him leave Arsenal for free when his contract expires in June 2025.

Barcelona are long-term admirers of Thomas Partey. They know everything the midfielder offers, since he played against them many times during his Atletico Madrid days.

Thomas Partey has been reliable for Arsenal, when he's played. Unfortunately, his minutes have been limited due to injuries in the past. However, when he's on the pitch, he rarely puts a foot wrong.

That said, the time is approaching for Arsenal to cut their losses. Over time, Partey has lost a yard of pace and there is always the question mark about his fitness, given his injury record.

So, if Arsenal do part ways with Thomas Partey, they can focus on their strong midfield core. They signed Mikel Merino in the summer transfer window, who is the logical partner for Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard when all three are fit.

This renders Thomas Partey as surplus to requirements. He is seeing a nice spike in minutes right now, but this is unlikely to last for the whole season.

From Barcelona's perspective, this would be an incredible coup. Their poor financial position is widely documented, so they might rely on bargain transfers such as this one.

Besides, Thomas Partey is proven in La Liga. He is very much capable of playing at the highest level, which is expected from any Hansi Flick player.

Barcelona could win La Liga this season. They have had the best start to the season and are excited to return to league action after the international break.
