Myles Lewis-Skelly is close to signing a new Arsenal contract after agreeing to fresh terms, according to multiple reports.

The defender broke into the Gunners first team last season and Charles Watts revealed that he has agreed a new deal with the club before Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein reaffirmed the report on Wednesday evening.

It appears as if he has now committed his long-term future to his boyhood club and that will come as great news to both Arsenal and their fans, especially considering his current deal was set to expire next year.

The Athletic revealed that Mikel Arteta, who is reported to have a strong relationship with Lewis-Skelly, was crucial in the successful talks while the young left back's mother and representative Marcia Lewis negotiated the deal.

His new salary will see him become one of the best-paid young players in the world, an increase that is reflective of his performances for the Gunners. He made 39 appearances for Arsenal in his debut campaign, scoring once and providing two assists, as well as being a consistent performer as part of their defence.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed that Lewis-Skelly only wanted to remain in north London throughout talks. This will be well received by Arsenal fans who know the youngster's heart is well and truly at the club.

He is the second player to agree new terms with the Gunners after Gabriel Magalhaes did so earlier this month. In a summer that has a big focus on renewals as well as incomings, Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard are among those in ongoing talks while Romano added that Ethan Nwaneri will be the next talent to sign a new deal with the club, calling it only a 'matter of time'.

Lewis-Skelly putting pen to paper on a new deal is simply outstanding business by Arsenal. His brilliant performances last season began to attract reported interest from the likes of Real Madrid and there appeared to be a real threat of him leaving with just a year remaining on his current contract. However, that has now been eradicated with him confirming his long-term future lies in the English capital.
