3 talking points ahead of Arsenal vs. Everton
- Gunners host Everton at Emirates Stadium
- Set piece specialists meet
- A key man could return
Arsenal welcome Everton to Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon as they return to league action in the midst of a packed festive period.
The Gunners were victorious in midweek as they beat Monaco 3-0 in the Champions League to put themselves within reach of the competition's round of 16. A Bukayo Saka brace and a late goal from Kai Havertz secured the three points for Mikel Arteta's side. Arsenal's last Premier League tie did not bring about the same joy as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Fulham.
As the Gunners look to return to winning ways on the domestic front, there are three key talking points ahead of what could prove to be a tough clash with Everton.
1. A set piece showdown
Arsenal's set-piece brilliance has earned them much praise and criticism from fans and the media this season, but they are not the only side that poses a threat from dead-ball situations.
Everton have netted six goals from set pieces this season with the Gunners being the only side to score more with eight. In fact, 42% of the Toffees goals this campaign have been a result of set pieces so it could be argued they pose more of a threat than Arsenal. The Gunners have conceded the fourth most amount from set pieces, so they will likely be the easier target.
Both sides may look to win as many set pieces as possible considering they are a main source of goals for either team. However, both Arsenal and Everton will be weary when it comes to conceding due to the other side's threat. They will be looking to avoid allowing any chances where their opponent could capitalise. It will be interesting to see how either side fares from set pieces in this game.
