Why Arsenal fans already know Thomas Partey’s future is sealed

Thomas Partey is open to rejecting big-money offers to stay at Arsenal. However, Arsenal fans feel that the reality might swing in the opposite direction.

Thomas Partey is the man of the moment right now. Not only is the Ghana international in great form for the Gunners, but he is the talk of the town due to his contract situation.

As it stands, Partey is under contract in North London until next month. He is already able to join a different club for free upon the expiration of his contract, but no agreement has been reached.

However, Arsenal fans are not in a false sense of security. While Partey hasn't agreed to leave, he hasn't agreed to stay yet either. Of course, the Emirates faithful is still traumatized by how the club dealt with contract renewals in the past.

Recent news from The Standard suggests that Thomas Partey is eager to stay at Arsenal. In fact, journalist Simon Collings believes Partey will reject big-money offers elsewhere to stay with the Gunners, and wants to sign a renewal before the last Premier League game of the season.

That said, Arsenal fans aren't as confident that he'll stay, for one key reason. That reason is Martin Zubimendi.

Arsenal fans already know Thomas Partey’s future is sealed

Mikel Arteta is a long-term fan of Zubimendi, and finally got his wish by striking an agreement with the Real Sociedad midfielder. The transfer isn't confirmed, but Fabrizio Romano has said the famous three words, so it essentially is confirmed.

Where does Zubimendi fit in with Partey in the team? They occupy similar positions, and a few Arsenal fans think that Zubimendi was signed as a Partey replacement.

More official sources seem to think that Martin Zubimendi was signed as a Jorginho replacement, which might not make too much sense from a fan perspective. Then again, nothing Arteta does makes sense from a fan perspective. As long as it works, we'll happily sit confused.

More on that note: Louis Sealey has said "Zubimendi’s arrival is not expected to overly effect Partey’s role in the team given Arsenal will be losing another midfielder this summer in Jorginho."

So, if Arteta plans to use both Zubimendi and Partey, what can go wrong, right? The plan seemingly worked out for one half of David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale, after all.

It would be great to see Partey stay at Arsenal, if a deal can be struck. As of right now, it doesn't make sense to have both Partey and Zubimendi in the team, but then again, Arteta has made weirder decisions.
