Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta spoke about Max Dowman's personality after the youngster's brilliant performance off the bench in the Gunners' 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday.

Before Dowman came on, Arsenal looked like a frustrated side that was sorely lacking ideas and inspiration. They were barely creating any chances, and did not have a standout player who was trying to will them to victory.

After Dowman came on, though, things changed. Arsenal became freer, more creative and started playing the game through the 16-year-old.

The 'risk' - whatever it was - paid off, as Arsenal found two goals in the last few minutes of the game.

Arteta was asked about the player, and what inspired him to make the change, to which he gave an answer that discussed his personality, and how the Englishman has gained his trust, and Arsenal fans will love it.

He said: "I think his character, his personality and the fact that he doesn't seem to be fazed by the pressure or his teammates or the opponent [is how Dowman gained his trust]. I've seen a lot of players with talent but at 16, very few that can cope with that level of demand.

"I had a gut feeling. Yesterday he was training and in the last few days and I had a gut feeling that it was a moment for him. Probably because he doesn't seem to be fazed by the occasion or the moment or the context or the opponent.

"He just plays so naturally. He makes decisions to make things happen and what he delivered was incredible."

For Arteta, whether it was an instinctive move to bring him on or not, he would not care. Dowman is what brought Arsenal to victory - a beautiful cross that ended up with Viktor Gyokeres scoring a goal, and then dribbling past two players to score in an empty net - these things are usually done by players who have played for a very long time.

Dowman, on the other hand, has only played a handful of minutes for the first team.

Arsenal know they have an absolute gem in their hands, and there will be times before the end of the season that Arteta throws the Englishman in the deep end, just like he did on Saturday, and Dowman will make a difference just because he has shown his creativity in the best possible time.

He is only 16 years old - baffling - but his game is way more mature than that. He is always looking to make things happen, which is, at many points, missing from Arsenal.

Fans will love hearing about Dowman's personality, though. It is clear that it is not just the talent, but also the mindset that makes you good at a young age, and Dowman is getting better at everything very quickly.
