Following a weekend of football that has benefitted them immensely, Arsenal find themselves in a perfect position as they head into the international break.

The Gunners secured a 2-0 win over London rivals West Ham on Saturday afternoon to leapfrog Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table before the Reds failed to regain top spot, losing 2-1 to Chelsea in dramatic fashion.

Defeat for the champions means Arsenal will be top of the league throughout the two-week international break, putting them in a very ideal situation going forward.

Arsenal have gone to the top of the Premier League for the first time since gameweek two and will be looking to secure that spot now they have a one-point lead on Liverpool.

Going into the international break with a lead on their main title rivals, as well as boasting a superior goal difference of seven, should be give the Gunners a great boost of confidence, especially when they look at the run of fixtures they have just come out of.

Handed arguably the league's toughest start, Mikel Arteta's side have now faced Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle away while also taking on Manchester City at home, coming away with seven points from a possible 12. With some of the most difficult games already out the way, Arsenal will fancy their chances of building a strong lead at the top as they head into a more straightforward run compared to their rivals.

In their next five games the Gunners take on Fulham, Crystal Palace, Burnley, Sunderland and Tottenham while Liverpool face United, Brentford, Aston Villa, City and Nottingham Forest. While both runs are difficult, most will favour Arsenal to come out of theirs in better style.

Arteta's side also showed with their win over West Ham, they won't be slipping up in the 'easier' fixtures in the way they did last season. The victory sent a statement that they are going to win every game possible rather than playing passive football that is simple for opponents to beat.

However, the Gunners squad can't dwell on their position for too long. With some players heading off to represent their countries in international action, they will have to come back raring to go for another huge set of games.

Arsenal go into the break in a perfect position, but there is still plenty of football to play and plenty for the team to build on. Regardless, there's no doubting that the Gunners have done their job so far this season.
