Arsenal's Ethan Nwaneri looks set to receive a contract offer from the Gunners, according to reports.
Arsenal's summer window has picked up steam with the new developments in the chase to secure the services of Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres, but there has also been another little update when it comes to youngster Ethan Nwaneri.
With the Gunners' need to fortify their stocks out wide, given only Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, and Gabriel Martinelli, along with Nwaneri, were Mikel Arteta's only wide choices last season (not counting Raheem Sterling because, well, you know).
A week or so ago, the Gunners made their intentions clear with Noni Madueke and then Eberechi Eze, and some wondered what that would mean for Nwaneri. There were even some rumors that the Gunners could look to move on from the teenager and cash in.
Although we know that was never going to be the plan, and thus that has turned out to be true.
Gunners set to offer Nwaneri bumper new deal
With Nwaneri bursting onto the scene last season, naturally, getting him to agree to terms is crucial, but with the club going after Madueke and Eze, some thought that wouldn't happen.
But according to BBC Sport, the Gunners are set to give the teenager a "formal offer" which is expected to be a four-year deal, with the option for a fifth.
And cue the collective sigh of relief.
Granted, most of us knew Ethan wasn't going anywhere, but in football, you never know, and had a big offer come in, who knows what the club might have done? And despite the Madueke and Eze links, Nwaneri still has a place in Arteta's plans.
We could only imagine the outcry had the Gunners moved on from him after his efforts last season, scoring nine goals in his 37 appearances in all competitions.
Now set to get a new contract offer, the hope is that Ethan will put pen to paper and the Gunners will keep hold of one of the most promising young players in world football.
