Gabriel Jesus netted a hat-trick in Arsenal's 3-2 Carabao Cup win over Crystal Palace to begin what could be a real redemption arc.
The Brazilian has endured a very poor run of form over the past season or so having failed to replicate the immense performances he put in at the beginning of his Arsenal career.
Having scored just one goal this campaign (prior to the Palace win) and not taken the chances he's been given, many fans called for Jesus to be sold in 2025, deeming him not good enough to play for the club. However, he silenced his critics with a star showing against Palace and has put himself on the path to saving his Gunners career.
Gabriel Jesus begins redemption arc against Crystal Palace
Gabriel Jesus put in a fine performance, scoring a hat-trick to help his side to a 3-2 win over Crystal Palace. His treble and overall showing against the Eagles have put the Brazilian on track to redeem his previous poor form for Arsenal.
He looked so much more like the player the Gunners signed from Manchester City two years ago. He was clinical with his finishing and at his best when on the ball.
Jesus started his Gunners career brilliantly with clinical performances in front of goal along with playing a key part in the club playing the style of football that has seen them become title challengers. However, having suffered multiple injury setbacks he has never been able to put together a consistent run of form. This has made fans of the club demand he be sold due to not meeting the standards required to play for Arsenal.
While not a natural striker, Jesus has often been relied on to play out of position as a number nine during his time in north London, and every Arsenal fan will tell you he has struggled to do so. One of his biggest problems has been the aforementioned consistency and due to injury proneness and a subsequent lack of game time, this has led to a clear knock to the Brazilian's confidence.
Many felt he was the man to answer Arsenal's goalscoring problems despite being more suited to a creative role. Jesus has failed to meet what has been expected of him and that has seen many deem him a failure. He showed against Palace that is not the case, no matter how poor he has been recently.
Jesus' treble against Palace showed that while he may not be an out-and-out striker, he is still capable of turning up and netting the odd goal or two for his side. This hat-trick will do wonders for his confidence, allowing him to put his poor form behind him. With consistent chances and fitness, Jesus has the chance to be a player that is more than capable of playing for Arsenal. If he can keep up his form, Jesus' performance against Crystal Palace will certainly be viewed as the beginning of his redemption arc.
