Arsenal have been handed a trip to face League One side Mansfield Town in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

The Gunners secured their place in the next stage after a dominant 4-0 victory over Wigan Athletic on Sunday evening. A brilliant first-half display saw goals from Noni Madueke, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus, as well as an own goal, help their side cruise to the win.

Their reward for the triumph over the Latics is a journey to take on the side that managed the surprise result of the fourth round.

Arsenal to face Mansfield in FA Cup fifth round

Mikel Arteta's side will take on Mansfield, who currently sit 13th in League One, in the fifth round, but will be wary of a potential upset.

The Stags came away from Burnley with a shock 2-1 win in the previous round, having come from behind to upset the Clarets in their own backyard. Goals from Rhys Oates and Louis Reed helped their side turn the tables after Joshua Laurent had put the hosts ahead.

That stunning result has earned them a matchup with another Premier League side, the current leaders Arsenal. It wasn't the first upset they caused either, having won 4-3 at the home of Championship side Sheffield United in the third round.

While Mansfield will have their eyes on causing another huge shock, the Gunners will be the overwhelming favourites to put their name in the hat for the quarter-finals. Currently flying under Arteta, they will be hoping their trip to Field Mill will be part of a journey to a historic quadruple as they remain in strong contention for each trophy this season.

There has just been one previous meeting between the two sides in history. That came in the fourth round of the 1928/29 edition when Arsenal overcame Mansfield, currently led by Nigel Clough son of the legendary Brian Clough, 2-0 under the stewardship of Herbert Chapman, just a year before their first ever FA Cup victory.

Arteta will be hoping his Gunners side can come away with a similar result when the tie is played on the weekend of Saturday 7 March.
