Arsenal have discussed the possibility of signing Lucien Agoume as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey, according to the Athletic.

With talks over a new deal now at a standstill and a week to go until his current terms expire, the possibility of the Ghana international leaving north London on a free transfer is looking very real.

That would leave the Gunners in need of a replacement. Martin Zubimendi is set to join in what should be a matter of days, but he has been regarded as a replacement for Jorginho. If Partey does head out the exit door, Arsenal will want to bring another midfielder in and it appears they are considering Agoume as an option.

Agoume has already picked up some decent experience, having made 105 appearances across three of Europe's top five leagues at just 23-years-old. Starting his career at French side Sochaux, he moved to Inter Milan in 2019 and made four appearances for the Nerazzurri.

He spent several seasons away from the Italian city on loan with Spezia, Brest, Troyes, and Sevilla. Agoume made his move to Spain permanent and joined up with the Seville side ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Often lining up with Arsenal loanee Albert Sambi Lokonga, Agoume scored one goal and provided three assists in 37 appearances across all competitions for Sevilla.

His experience has stretched to the international stage, appearing for several of France's youth teams. He has earned 55 caps from Under-16 to Under-21 level, still playing for the latter.

The midfielder is valued at just €8m by Transfermarkt and that could make him a cheap option for Arsenal in their hunt for a Partey replacement. The Gunners really shouldn't have to pay above €20-25m for his services.

Such a move would bode well for Arsenal amid a transfer window where other positions are a priority. If Partey does leave, filling that void is crucial and Agoume is an option that wouldn't require breaking the bank or disregarding other priorities. His youth and experience will also be a great addition to the squad in the long-term.
