Arsenal have already identified summer 2025 blockbuster signing
- Arsenal are one of four interested teams in Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz
- Wirtz has been in remarkable form since returning from torn ACL at start of 2023
- German international would command huge fee
Florian Wirtz is very good at football and it's only natural that Europe's elite would boast an interest in the Bayer Leverkusen star. Arsenal are one of the clubs that could make a play for the 21-year-old in 2025.
Wirtz has blossomed into a bonafide superstar at Leverkusen, with the young German international inspiring Die Werkself to an utterly remarkable 2023/24 Bundesliga campaign. The low sock-donning playmaker recorded 23 goal contributions in the league as Xabi Alonso's side broke Bayern Munich's monopoly over the German top flight by becoming the first German team to enjoy an entire domestic season unbeaten.
Wirtz's stellar campaign was made all the more impressive given that he'd returned from a long-term knee injury at the start of 2023. This is a player whose stock is only going to rise as he progresses through his twenties, and he's started the 2024/25 campaign in fine goalscoring form.
Florian Wrtiz identified as dream Arsenal signing in 2025
Leverkusen, unlike Girona and Bologna, were able to keep the key assets from their 2023/24 campaign over the summer with their players resisting any temptations to depart in favour of building on their success with Alonso, who rejected advances from Liverpool earlier this year.
However, German newspaper BILD has speculated that the Bundesliga holders have their work cut out next summer if they're to once again retain their impressive core. Their report says that Wirtz is one of the Leverkusen stars poised to move on in 2025 and four clubs are already preparing a move for the scintillating 21-year-old.
""I was mistaken in saying that Florian Wirtz’s price is around €150m. In reality, he is priceless. Florian is not available for transfer.""
- Bayer Leverkusen director Fernando Carro
Arsenal are among the interested parties, but they may have to fight off Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich if they're to seriously pursue the German. Leverkusen are said to value their superstar playmaker at €150m (£126m) given that his current deal expires in 2027, and further reports out of Germany (via Sport Bible) suggest Wirtz has already decided on Bayern as his next club.
How many times have we seen this movie play out?
But hey, if Mikel Arteta and Arsenal want Wirtz as their blockbuster arrival next summer, you can bet your bottom dollar that Edu Gaspar and company will be putting on the charm. I mean, who wouldn't want to be a part of this project? I'm sure Kai could get in the 21-year-old's ear.
