Arsenal were on the receiving end of an ambitious transfer approach. However, Mikel Arteta's signing is not for sale, at any price.
The next transfer window for Arsenal to strengthen their squad is in January. However, this doesn't mean that teams from other countries are unable to contact them about selling players.
It just means that Arsenal is more unlikely to sanction the sale of their key players. This is especially the case, considering Mikel Arteta is unable to bring any player in to replace them.
So, it might not come as a surprise to anyone that Arsenal turned down an ambitious transfer approach. This news was broken yesterday.
Arsenal immediately reject transfer approach for Mikel Arteta signing
According to a report from ESPN, which cites comments from Palmeiras sporting director Leila Pereira, Arsenal informed Palmeiras that Gabriel Jesus is not up for sale. Therefore, negotiations ended before they begun.
In his own words, Pereira stated: "Gabriel Jesus is not coming, We got in touch with Arsenal, and they said 'Leila, there are no conditions whatsoever.' We are not going to negotiate the player. The subject is closed."
It was an ambitious approach from Palmerias. However, the Brazilian club cannot be blamed. They would like to strengthen their squad ahead of the Club World Cup this summer, which is a terrific opportunity for them.
Of course, Gabriel Jesus is a player who is naturally high on their radar anyway. The Brazil international started his career at Palmeiras and he owes the Brazilian club a lot.
Palmeiras is a very exciting team. Throughout history, they have produced some of the best talents in the world. In fact, some of the players we see today including Gabriel Jesus and Endrick played for Palmeiras. Players of the past include Roberto Carlos and Rivaldo.
However, Palmerias were in no luck trying to re-sign Gabriel Jesus. They were politely told no, to avoid wasting either Arsenal's or Palmeira's time.
