Arsenal have added Eberechi Eze to their list of winger targets, according to a report by talkSPORT.

The Gunners are not the only ones in the race to sign the Crystal Palace star, with rivals Tottenham also looking to secure his services this summer.

With a release clause of £68m, Eze won't come cheap for Arsenal, but as they look to add depth in the wide areas, he may be a suitable option for them.

Arsenal have been after a winger for almost as long as they've wanted a striker. With Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard their only wide options, they have long been in need of another option and it appears they are looking to answer that this summer.

The Gunners had looked at the possibility of signing Nico Williams, but with him now Barcelona bound, they have turned their attention to other options. These include Rodrygo, Anthony Gordon and it now seems Eze too.

The midfielder has evolved into one of the Premier League's best players since first joining Crystal Palace from Queen's Park Rangers in 2020. He has scored 34 goals and provided 23 assists in 146 top flight appearances.

His biggest moment in a Palace shirt came last season when he scored the only goal in their FA Cup final victory over Manchester City to win the club the first major trophy in their history, proving he can step up in huge games.

Eze's consistent performances for the Eagles and particularly his brilliance last season has seen him attract interest from Arsenal and Tottenham this summer.

Spurs had been viewed as the original contenders to secure his signature, but the Gunners joining the race does make sense. He has a release clause worth around £68m and while that is a lot of money, it's cheaper than arguably preferred target Rodrygo would be.

He has plenty of Premier League experience and is capable of playing on both wings as well as in the number 10 role. That versatility is something that would come in great handy for Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal side. His knowledge of England's top flight also mean he would be able to come straight into the squad ready, rather than needing time to adapt like a player from another league might.

The Gunners want to bring a world class winger to the club this summer and Eze can tick that box. Yes okay, £68m is a lot, but that is the kind of fee teams have to pay to acquire the services of such players.

Signing Eze makes sense for Arsenal. He is a suitable option that wouldn't need time to adapt, can provide world class cover across a number of areas and is also available for a smaller price than other options.

Oh yeah, and to beat Tottenham to a signing would be beautiful, wouldn't it?
