Arsenal are on the brink of a potentially historic season as they are just four wins away from being crowned champions of the Premier League and Champions League, but if they are to do the unthinkable, they could be forced into having a conversation they have never had before.

The Gunners haven't been short of brilliant campaigns in the past, having secured three double-winning seasons in 1970/71, 1997/98 and 2001/02, as well as a domestic cup double in 1992/93. And of course, standing among them all is the Invincibles season, that saw them win the 2003/04 Premier League without losing a game.

However, they could be ready to complete a year like no other and that could prompt a discussion over what actually is their greatest ever season.

The Invincibles has long been Arsenal's greatest achievement with only five FA Cup winning seasons following it, meaning there has been no real argument against its status. However, that could finally be thrown in to doubt.

The Gunners' double-winning seasons, especially in the Premier League era, are well remembered with Nicolas Anelka, Tony Adams, Ray Parlour and Thierry Henry among the stars who fired their team to victory in the respective campaigns, but the unbeaten 2003/04 season just stands out as their best ever.

Each game, the likes of Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Jens Lehmann, Patrick Vieira, Sol Campbell, Gilberto Sliva and Robert Pires took to the field to keep their side's run intact and eventually ended the season with 26 wins and 12 draws to be crowned the only ever club to win the Premier League without suffering a single defeat.

Some clubs have come close to repeating the feat, most notably Chelsea in the following season and Liverpool in the 2018/19 campaign as they both lost just one game, but no side has managed to do it so far.

Given the amount of draws Arsenal played out in the Invincibles season, many in the modern era have claimed the feat isn't overly impressive, but the fact of the matter is that it is. No other team has done it since and it's going to be very difficult to replicate it in the future.

However, the question the Gunners could be asking themselves come the end of this month is if an unbeaten season is more impressive than a double winning campaign that sees them win their first Premier League title in 22 years and their first ever Champions League.

Looking at the different players each squad had, there is probably no argument that the 2003/04 squad had more quality, but the possible achievement is on another level. Delivering a first title in over two decades and winning a competition the club has never won before could certainly take the crown.

It of course remains a big if at the moment as Arsenal still face four huge battles to secure both pieces of silverware, but they are now within touching distance and supporters, the media and rivals will be readying themselves to have a conversation that has never been had before.
