Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is set to join Flamengo this summer, upon the expiry of his contract, according to multiple reports.

Brazilian journalist Vene Casagrande was first to reveal the news before transfer guru Fabrizio Romano also added to the reports on Monday evening. Romano reported that the midfielder is set to leave the Gunners to sign a three year deal with the Campeonato Carioca champions.

Jorginho was expected to leave the Gunners once his contract expired and is set to sign his deal with Flamengo in the coming days in order to confirm his next destination.

Jorginho is set to join Filipe Luis' side in a move that sees him follow in the footsteps of ex-Chelsea teammate David Luiz, who also signed for Flamengo from Arsenal.

He is reported to be joining the Brazilian side during the pre-FIFA Club World Cup transfer window, meaning he could be available to represent them at the tournament, in which they are grouped with his former side Chelsea.

The midfielder could move to Brazil, who he was eligible to represent at international level, without appearing for Mikel Arteta's side again, having picked up a rib injury a few weeks ago, but there is confidence he can return before the season concludes.

The Italy international's departure from North London brings an end to his decade long stay in Europe and will leave a big hole in the Gunners squad, having been a key member of the leadership group since first moving to the club in January 2023.

Arsenal will be looking to replace Jorginho this summer with his place in the squad needed to be filled. Martin Zubimendi remains of key interest to the club while Thomas Partey is in talks over a new deal to remain in the capital. Having won multiple European titles, his experience as a leader and player will also be missed, so a current member of Arteta's side may have to step up into a new role.
