What kind of response will we see from Arsenal against Nottingham Forest?

It has been a tough 48 hours for Arsenal, and it's not going to get any easier.

After the 1-0 loss to West Ham, which put the mood levels at an all-time low, then Liverpool expertly dispatched Manchester City 2-0 to further enhance those feelings.

Then we look ahead ot Arsenal's next game and a sense of dread can come over you.

Third-placed Nottingham Forest...on the road.

This season, it doesn't get much tougher than that with Forest having lost just twice at home all season in 14 games. It presents a tough challenge for an Arsenal side that is there to be got at.

But Forest isn't in the best of form, losing their last two league games 2-1 to Fulham and 4-3 to Newcastle, so there might be a case of the wobbles for Nuno Espírito Santo's side.

What kind of response will we see from Arsenal?

More importantly, while Forest is down, so too are the Gunners, and how Mikel Arteta's side reacts to what has been a brutal 48 hours will be telling.

"Hopefully it's a positive one, because it’s already very negative what the result brings and the consequences to that, so hopefully very positive but to understand that we need to raise the level," Arteta said via arsenal.com.

Hope isn't exactly what Arsenal fans want to hear right now, Mikel.

But in truth, the squad has gone through a tough time and the mentiality of the group will now be a close watch and let's not forget, top four isn't sealed yet either.

Yes, Newcastle is still nine points behind in fifth, but as we know, it doesn't take much for that gap to close rapidly. A couple of losses could see the Gunners get dragged into a fight they want no part of.

How do they stay away from such a fight? Win football games.

It's easier said than done, but the Gunners can't allow their whole season to go down the drain in the space of a couple of weeks. Could we imagine the backlash that would follow if Arsenal ended the season with a whimper and subsequently missed out on the top four? Goodness me, it would be a bloodbath.

But there are 12 league games to navigate, and how the team performs against a tough opponent on the road will tell us if this Arsenal side will fight to the end or wave the white flag.
