Arsenal ended up winning their final preseason friendly against Como on Wednesday, but it only came after a penalty shootout.
Mikel Arteta would not look into too many takeaways from preseason friendlies, but it is fair to say that the one big problem from last season might still be there.
Arteta was asked about how the team played, and the positives or negatives that he would take away, to which he said: "It was a really good test. It was a bit tricky today because obviously we play a final on Sunday, so to manage the minutes of the players and not expose them too much after playing three days ago, it wasn’t easy.
"But we managed to make a lot of changes, play some kids, but still perform at a really high level - and I think late in the game the score should’ve been different, and that’s the part of our game we need to improve because otherwise I think there were a lot of positives to take from the game."
Arsenal need to start putting games to bed more often this season
The early days have shown that Arsenal, in many games, have struggled to put the game to bed by scoring enough goals.
It just seems like, especially with a quality side like Como, they struggled to put the game to bed. They had many chances to score, but like with so many games last season, they just weren't able to.
Last season, they had quite a few late equalising goals, and the biggest negative takeaway from the season was that they just weren't able to put games to bed, even when they won..
So many of their wins were close 1-0 or 2-1 battles that never left fans feeling very confident of their own team's success on the night. If the match against Como is anything to go by, it seems like the issue is still there.
Obviously, it is, at the end of the day, a preseason game, and who knows, maybe things improved during the season, especially if Arsenal sign a quality left winger. Maybe things will be better with Christos Tzolis as Arsenal's left winger instead of Leandro Trossard. But those things will only be talked about when they happen.
As far as preseason goes, it wasn't the best in terms of results, and Arsenal would hope that the one big problem from last season doesn't come back to haunt them again, especially when they are trying to win every possible trophy in existence.
