Arsenal sanction another sale as Hamburg agree Fábio Vieira deal

Fábio Vieira is set to call time on his uneventful Arsenal career as Hamburg have agreed a deal to sign him, according to multiple reports.

The Portuguese midfielder looks set to return to the club where he spent the 2025/26 season on loan after they reached an agreement to bring him back to the Bundesliga on a permanent basis.

Vieira's impending departure comes as part of a number of sales sanctioned by the Gunners and he is set to join Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus in heading out the exit door.

Vieira is set to join Hamburg for a fee worth around £7.7million and this brings an end to his four year spell in North London, having failed to make a competitive first team appearance since coming off the bench in a 5-0 win over Chelsea in April 2024.

The former Portugal youth international spent the last two seasons away on loan, returning to boyhood club Porto for the 2024/25 campaign before heading to Hamburg last term. He is now reportedly travelling to undergo a medical and rejoin the latter on a permanent deal, ending his ineffective time at the Emirates Stadium.

Signed from Porto for just under a reported £30m ahead of the 2022/23 season, Vieira joined Mikel Arteta's side with high expectations, but he failed to make a serious impact, scoring just twice and assisting six times in 33 appearances across all competitions in his maiden year.

He remained with the club for the 2023/24 campaign as they looked to build on a second-place finish, but he once again struggled to have an influence with his side ending the term as runners-up once again. Injuries and a lack of chances meant he played only 16 matches, netting one goal and providing four assists.

After two temporary departures, every single supporter in the Arsenal fanbase knew that Vieira had to be moved on permanently this summer and that looks to have finally happened now Hamburg have agreed to sign him.

Like Jesus' impending move to Barcelona, Vieira's sale won't bring in any profit and sees the Gunners suffer yet another loss on a signing that cost plenty of money, but there is one important factor that has to be considered. He is finally moving on and will no longer be on the wage bill so Arsenal will be glad to have at least sanctioned the sale and received a fee.
