The Gunners are reportedly close to signing Konstantinos Karetsas from Genk.

Arsenal's transfer wishlist, for most, starts and stops with signing a new striker to not only ease the burden on Kai Havertz, but also give the Gunners a genuine goal-scorer.

With Benjamin Sesko thought to be the striker Arsenal is getting close to agreeing to terms with, many fans are content with that choice.

But will they be content with this latest piece of news?

Gunners reportedly close to signing Greek wonderkid

With the Gunners' need for another foil for Martin Odegaard, with the skipper having an up-and-down season, Mikel Arteta and Co. have put their feelers out and have returned with one name they reportedly want, and seem determined to get.

Genk's Konstantinos Karetsas.

The attacking midfielder, who can also dabble as a winger, kills two birds with one stone for the Gunners, and per the greekcitytimes, Arsenal is close to reaching an agreement with a fee of €45 million reportedly being discussed.

The report also states that the Gunners would loan Karetsas back to Genk so the youngster can get first-team football before coming to north London in 2026 to be part of Arteta's set up.

That is what the Gunners did with William Saliba early on in his career and that seems to have worked out reasonably well we say.

Still, is this the right move and allocation of funds considering the urgent need for a striker?

That is in the eye of the beholder, but one thing must be for certain, if this reported move goes through, the Gunners still must sign their No. 1 striking target regardless.

Could they do that? Putting it simply, they have to, right? Also, with Karetsas not thought to be an option for the first team for another 12 months, is it worth Arsenal using so much of its financial resources on him? Granted, he fills a midfield and wide area need, but still.

Arsenal needs a striker first and foremost, and then let the rest fall where they may, including Karetsas.
