Gyokeres grabbed a brace as Arsenal thumped Atletico Madrid 4-0 in the Champions League.
Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side continued on their merry way in the Champions League with a 4-0 hammering of Atletico Madrid at the Emirates Stadium.
After a tough first half, the Gunners, as we have become accustomed to, clicked through the gears in the second half and in a devastating 13-minute spell, piled on four goals as the momentum overwhelmed the visitors.
First it was Gabriel latching onto a pin-point Declan Rice free kick, before Myles Lewis-Skelly teed up Gabriel Martinelli to double the lead. Then it was all Viktor.
A scrappy first goal was followed by our No. 14 getting on the end of Gabriel's header back across goal to push the ball over the line to complete his brace.
Gyokeres finally on the score sheet
For the club's big summer signing, it had been seven games without a goal, and while his performances for Arteta can't be quantified in goals alone, for the naysayers, it has to be.
But at the Emirates, it didn't matter how he got his goals, as long as he got them, and you better believe there is a sigh of relief now.
“It’s always amazing to score goals and to do it here in this competition, it's a great feeling,” Gyokeres said via arsenal.com. “I'm more hungry now. You always want to contribute with work rate and other stuff but when you score goals as well, it's a bit special. So that's something I always want to do."
Now that Viktor has gotten the goal-scoring itch back, Gunners fans will hope that this will translate into league action. His industrious work ethic hasn't always been rewarded over the past seven games, and his value to this team can't be underestimated.
But when he's scoring goals, as well as bringing others into the game, and taking two defenders to task, this Arsenal team is a different beast.
Gyokeres is back on the score sheet, and everything feels right with the world again.
