5. Liverpool 2-2 Arsenal – 9th April 2023 (at Anfield)

  • Arsenal: Gabriel Martinelli (8), Gabriel Jesus (25)
  • Liverpool: Mohamed Salah (42), Roberto Firmino (83)

Although the Gunners travelled to Anfield with a six-point lead at the top of the table over Manchester City, with Liverpool languishing in eighth, they could ill-afford any slip-ups in April. Arteta's men still had to visit the Etihad and City had games in hand plus a superior goal difference.

Martinelli opened the scoring for the visitors after eight minutes before setting up Gabriel Jesus for a 25th minute headed goal. Before half-time though, Salah pulled one back for the home side.

After half-time Liverpool went on the offensive. A long sustained period of attack finally breached the Arsenal barricade in the 87th minute when Roberto Firmino headed past Aaron Ramsdale to equalise.

Before that, Salah had missed his second successive penalty.

The action wasn't over though and a precious point was only earned after Ramsdale made a world-class save from Salah's deflected effort in injury time.
