Arsenal may have been lagging six points behind league leaders Liverpool when City came to the Etihad in early February but they were not ready to concede the title just yet.

Almost two years on from the humiliating 4-1 defeat at the Etihad (it should have been eight or nine) the Gunners got their revenge and showed how far they had come under Arteta.

Youngsters Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri announced themselves on the scene with a goal each as Arsenal demolished the fading league champions 5-1 and virtually handed the title to Liverpool.

As Arsenal prepare for another huge match in a difficult opening month of fixtures, Arteta will know that only victory will really be enough. If the Gunners are going to be title contenders they must start by picking up all three points against City and keeping the early pressure on Liverpool.
