Arsenal have maintained their interest in a former transfer target. Now, Mikel Arteta wants to sign him from West Ham United, despite his £85m valuation.

Edu Gaspar left Arsenal this month. Now, his position as sporting director is vacant, meaning Arsenal are on the hunt for somebody to come in to call the shots in North London.

That said, even without Edu cooking, the show must go on. The club cannot mourn his decision to leave, they must instead bite the bullet and focus on how they can rebuild without him.

So, Arsenal still have a transfer plan drawn out, even without Edu Gaspar at the helm. Indeed, Mikel Arteta would like to try again with a former transfer target who escaped Arsenal.

According to a report from Fichajes, Arsenal want to sign Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United. The report states that the Gunners are willing to negotiate with West Ham over signing him, as he has a release clause of £85m.

It is yet to be known whether or not Arsenal are willing to meet the release clause. We can assume that this isn't the current plan, as it hasn't been reported. However, the outlet does claim that Arsenal are eager to add more firepower to their squad.

Arsenal have not started the season how they mean to go on. Now it's the November international break, they are fourth in the Premier League table. Considering they had aspirations to win the title, this is not good going by any stretch of the imagination.

Therefore, signings like Mohammed Kudus are required. He is a multifaceted player who clearly has the ability to come up with big moments at important times.

However, it must be said that Kudus does not fill Arsenal fans with inspiration about what's ahead. While he is a great player and clearly someone who Arteta values, his strongest position is already occupied by Martin Odegaard.
