Arsenal are keeping a close eye on Leroy Sane's situation at Bayern Munich, with one report suggesting the club have already opened talks with the potential free agent.

Sane has flattered to deceive for the most part in Munich having joined the club off the back of a torn ACL in 2020. The German's record is decent enough - 106 goal involvements in 209 games - but he hasn't dominated on his return to the Bundesliga as many projected on his arrival.

Still, there's no denying Sane's status as a game-breaking talent when he's at his very best. Arsenal know all to well about the German's destructive apex, with the winger impressing during the first leg of last season's Champions League quarter-final between the two clubs. Sane also had plenty of success against the Gunners during his spell at Manchester City, recording four goal contributions in nine games.

Arsenal interested in signing Leroy Sane as free agent this summer

Arsenal are expected to bolster their frontline considerably this summer after acquiring just one forward (Raheem Sterling on loan from Chelsea) over the past two transfer windows. While the club are set to prioritise a move for their long-term number nine, there have also been links to several wide players.

Sane has drifted in and out of transfer rumour mills over the past couple of months, with his situation at Bayern doubtlessly intriguing a number of European clubs.

According to Christian Falk, Arsenal are one of the clubs eyeing a summer move for Sane, who is yet to sign a contract extension in Bavaria and is currently slated to become a free agent in June. Falk notes that no fresh negotiations have taken place between the two parties over a new deal.

While Bayern wouldn't want to lose Sane for nothing, the club are also seemingly unwilling to retain him on such a high salary given his current status in Vincent Kompany's squad. Capology estimates the 29-year-old to be making just shy of €300,000-a-week in Munich.

Sane has not been a regular for Kompany this season, starting less than half of Bayern's Bundesliga games at the time of writing. He has ten league goal involvements and notched just a single goal in the Champions League. We've seen Michael Olise usurp Sane in the depth chart this term, with Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry also competing for minutes out wide.

He's a player Bayern can afford to lose, and there's already talk of the club identifying another Arsenal target, Nico Williams, as his replacement. If Arsenal supporters had a choice between Sane and Williams, I'm sure many would be tempted by the potential of the Spanish international.
