Arsenal have been dealt a huge defensive blow as William Saliba was forced off with an injury during France's World Cup semi-final clash with Spain.
The defender went down and was seen pointing to his back, prompting Les Bleus manager Didier Deschamps to bring him off, introducing Maxence Lacroix off the bench as a replacement.
Saliba's injury may not be as serious as it first appeared, but following his subsequent substitution, Gunners fans will be very concerned that it is a major issue, a fear that many had been expecting throughout the tournament.
William Saliba forced off with an injury for France
The club have been worried about William Saliba and his back issues. I reported a few weeks ago he may even need some sort of procedure to fully heal. Rice is dragging himself through the WC. Saka? Well we already know his documented issues.

If Saliba's issue is related to his back as first seemed, it will be a worrying sign for Arsenal as it is a recurring problem he has faced during his time at the club.
The Frenchman was ruled out with a back issue during the second half of the 2022/23 season, his breakthrough campaign in North London, after being withdrawn 21 minutes into a Europa League round of 16 tie against Sporting.
He subsequently missed 97 days of action and 15 games for both club and country, directly affecting the Gunners' title challenge, leading to a second-place finish behind Manchester City.
Despite playing through most fitness issues, Saliba has continued to struggle with his back and recently admitted in an interview that he had been feeling pain while playing for some time, prompting many supporters to be concerned about his long-term sustainability.
Some reports have suggested the defender may need a procedure to completely deal with the issue, a suggestion that will be of concern for Arsenal and their supporters, but also one that makes the most sense.
History has shown that so many players have suffered with recurring injuries that eventually has a huge impact on their careers and that is the last thing the Gunners will want for Saliba.
At just 25-years-old, he still has a lengthy and prosperous career ahead of him, but that may only be possible if his back issues are tended to once and for all.
Dealing with that as soon as possible may be the best solution for Arsenal as while it would mean he'd miss the opening months of the season, it would hopefully rule out the risk of him being struck and absent at a more crucial part such as the run-in.
Saliba isn't the only Gunner currently struggling with Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka also among those who have been pushed to their limits due to the high demands of club football and the World Cup, but fans will be hoping they are all at least given a well deserved rest before the new campaign begins.
