Ezri Konsa has seamlessly slotted into Arsenal's backline since he arrived from Aston Villa in the summer, and Sunday's performance away at Nottingham Forest was arguably his best yet.

Under the cosh late in the game, Konsa made a number of crucial defensive interventions to deny Forest dangerous moments, including an outstanding late tackle on Liam Delap, who was bearing down on goal. In possession, he was as composed as ever, completing 98% of his passes.

Eyebrows were raised when Arsenal opted to spend a record fee for a defender over the age of 28, but Konsa has certainly justified the Gunners' investment so far.

His performances aren't going unrecognised outside of Arsenal either. Speaking after the game, Oliver Glasner lauded Konsa and Gabriel Magalhaes, describing their central defensive partnership as the 'best in the world'.

“Ezri Konsa and Gabriel are possibly the best centre-back pairing in the world at the moment,” Glasner claimed (via Football.London).

Up until this point, it's felt like there has been some reluctance from the Arsenal fanbase to shower their new central defender with praise. The absence of the imperious William Saliba probably hasn't helped Konsa's cause in terms of him establishing hero status amongst the Gunners faithful, but it seems like this might now be shifting.

He's been so good of late that it would be wrong for the 28-year-old not to have his name sung by Arsenal supporters. On Sunday afternoon at the City Ground, a new Konsa chant was born.

Ezri Konsa's Arsenal chant

It may not have been audible on the television broadcast, but the Arsenal supporters behind the goal in the Bridgford Stand at the City Ground belted out a new Konsa tune mid-way through the first half after the England international helped shut down a Forest attack and earn the Gunners a goal-kick.

Showing their appreciation for Konsa's efforts, the North Londoners sang, 'Ezri Konsa baby, Ezri Konsa ohhhhhhh,' to the tune of 'Don't You Want Me' by the Human League.

As the song whistled through the brisk autumn air in Nottingham, Konsa raised his arms and gave the travelling Gunners supporters a thumbs up whilst walking forward to take his position in Arsenal's build-up.

This particular chant will likely be loved and gleefully adopted by the wider Arsenal fanbase who weren't in Nottingham, for two reasons. Firstly, simply to show appreciation for their excellent new signing, and secondly, because the chant will be remembered fondly as it was originally used for Alexis Sanchez.

The Gunners' electric Chilean was the star man at the Emirates between 2014 and 2018, and 'Alexis Sanchez baby' regularly echoed around N5. While the winger's controversial departure for Manchester United may have tainted the chant's reputation somewhat, most fans will be delighted to wheel out the old classic once again, adding it to the playlist at home and away matches.
