Arsenal's midfield are leaving others in the dust in the Premier League

Arsenal have enjoyed a great start to the 2026/27 Premier League season with three wins from their opening three matches and their midfield have played a key part in that.

Mikel Arteta has named the same trio in the middle of the park for his side's first games with Declan Rice and Myles Lewis-Skelly operating behind a reborn Martin Ødegaard to form a dominant force in the pitch's central areas.

The Gunners' midfield three have been crucial to their victories and that has seen them lead their counterparts throughout the top flight as some of the best passers the league has to offer.

Of the five midfielders to have played 190+ minutes so far this season with the highest pass accuracy, Lewis-Skelly, Rice and Ødegaard all feature prominently in the quintet.

The Hale End graduate leads the entire pack with 93.3% accuracy with his England teammate following closely with 93.2%. Chelsea midfielder Roméo Lavia takes third place with 92.5%, but captain Ødegaard sneaks into fourth with 91.6%. Manchester City's Elliot Anderson completes the five with an accuracy of 91.5%.

Lewis-Skelly has attempted 163 passes and completed 152 of those in 228 minutes of league football so far this season while Rice has accurately played 205 of his 220 attempts. Their skipper has played 155, pulling off 142.

While it is of course only three games into the new season, leading in a statistic such as this proves how well Arsenal have started the campaign, in terms of performance, their style of play and an ability to keep hold of the ball.

As the Gunners look to rid themselves of their repuation as a team that play it safe, like they did in the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons, they are looking to play more quick and clever attacking football, which has already been on display in the victories over Coventry City, Aston Villa and Chelsea.

If Arteta's side are to be successful with this, their midfielders need to be on top form and able to play swift accurate passes, which it looks like they've already been doing so far in the campaign. The Spaniard will be hoping his midfield trio, as well as backup options of Mikel Merino, Martín Zubimendi and Bruno Guimarães, can manage that throughout the season.

It's certainly early doors, but Arsenal are already showing their dominance in certain statistics and long may it continue as they look to go back-to-back and win a second successive league title for the first time since the mid-1930s.
