Borussia Dortmund make proposal to sign Ethan Nwaneri on loan

Borussia Dortmund have made a proposal to sign Ethan Nwaneri on loan from Arsenal, according to multiple reports.

The Athletic and BBC Sport revealed on Monday night that the Bundesliga side have approached the Gunners over potentially bringing the Hale End graduate to the German top flight on a temporary deal for the 2026/27 season.

Nwaneri looks likely to leave the North Londoners before the transfer window closes on Tuesday and it seems to be a real possibility that Dortmund will be his destination ahead of the deadline.

Dortmund have reportedly made an offer to Arsenal and that has prompted talks between the two clubs to get underway with a decision expected to be reached in the morning.

This news comes just days after it was revealed that Nwaneri had a preference to remain with the Gunners, or stay in the Premier League if he was to leave the club this summer, with no interest in joining a side abroad.

While the conclusion of the proposal is yet to be decided, Nwaneri does seem destined to leave his boyhood club temporarily before the deadline, and despite his reported stance on a move out of England, Dortmund seem like they will be his club for this season.

His future has been subject to plenty of speculation throughout the transfer window and he has been linked with a move to a number of clubs, both in England and across Europe. Dortmund initially showed an interest in signing him earlier in the window.

If Nwaneri is to leave, it is highly likely it will be on a loan unless Arsenal receive a lucrative offer prior to the deadline. It was reported only weeks ago that they were prioritising loan offers due to an awareness that the Hale End star needs game time while not wanting to let go of such a great talent.

Remaining at the club would see him face a difficult battle for minutes over the campaign. Despite Gabriel Martinelli's impending move to Al Hilal leaving a gap in the squad, the Gunners are weighing up a move for Lyon's Malick Fofana, who would make it difficult for Nwaneri to be involved if he does join.

Nwaneri should really accept a move to Dortmund if the approach is approved by Arsenal. His career could depend on it as he will seriously struggle for minutes this season and a temporary move away, regardless of the country, will be his only chance to play regularly. However, it all depends if the two clubs can reach an agreement.
