Celtic are reportedly in talks to sign Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney, who famously came through the Celtic Park academy.
Kieran Tierney was once a kid with a dream. Having blasted through the Parkhead academy with his whole future ahead of him, it was pretty clear that Kieran Tierney would be a star.
And he was a star. So much so, he received plenty of interest from European clubs after breaking into the Celtic team. Indeed, he had some opportunities to leave the Hoops but initially, he pledged his loyalty and remained with his boyhood club.
Ultimately, KT did make the move to Arsenal. He signed for the North London club in 2019 and was an instant hit. Whenever he played, he won the hearts of many for exactly the same reason as he did at Celtic - He fought incredibly hard to get the win for his team.
Unfortunately, this ended up being to his detriment. Tierney's time in England was tainted with injuries and despite being held in high regard at Arsenal, he is now likely to leave this season.
Celtic in talks to sign Arsenal defender in a free transfer
According to a report from BBC Sport, Celtic have now entered talks to re-sign Kieran Tierney at the end of the season. It could be a pre-contract deal, which would see KT see out this season at the Gunners before returning to Celtic.
It is still unknown whether or not Celtic are able to meet Tierney's personal wage demands. However, considering Arsenal are allowing him to leave for free, Celtic can save money on the transfer fee.
Without a doubt, the Celtic supporters will be excited if they are able to welcome back Kieran Tierney. For the last few seasons, they have harboured hopes for a return but in the end, Arsenal opted to wait until the end of his contract before waving him goodbye.
It wouldn't be a surprise to see other clubs sniffing around Kieran Tierney, especially as a free signing. That said, Celtic will be confident that Tierney's love of the club, influenced by his many years there, will give them the upper-hand over any competitors.
From Arsenal's perspective, it wouldn't be nice to see Tierney leave. He would leave behind the bitter taste of "what if?" for the Arsenal fans to swallow. Nevertheless, it would be nice to see him return to his beloved Celtic.
