Claude Makélélé has seen exactly why Bruno Guimarães fits Arsenal so well

Chelsea and football legend Claude Makélélé believes that Bruno Guimarães and Arsenal are basically a match made in heaven.

Guimarães, although he has not been announced yet, has been confirmed by the biggest media outlets as a done deal to join Arsenal from Newcastle United for a fee of around £75 million this summer.

Guimarães is entering the peak of his career, and he would obviously want to keep playing European football and competing for the biggest trophies at the highest level. Joining Arsenal would be the best move for him in that regard.

Makélélé also believes so, as he praised Guimarães' ability and ambitions as a player while also talking about how a move to Arsenal would be great for all parties involved.

“Guimarães is an ambitious player who sees his career one way: Champions League football, always, and teams built to win titles in Europe.

“Arsenal tick every box. They won the Premier League, they’ve gone deep in the Champions League, and they’re built to go again. It’s always right for a good player to join a great team, and Arsenal have done great business.

“Bruno Guimarães is a very good player, exceptional, as we saw with Brazil. It’s his career and his decision, but his game fits Arsenal perfectly.”

Arsenal tick every single box for Guimarães. After winning the Premier League and coming so close to winning the Champions League as well, it was only clear that Arsenal are now the standard for Premier League football.

Having players like Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard, Bukayo Saka, and William Saliba is already a huge advantage for the club, but they also need to add a few more profiles that they feel are missing from the team.

Guimarães' profile is one of them, as Arsenal need a physically dominant, technically sound midfielder who can play alongside Rice and form a really good partnership.

Being so close to winning three trophies last season, and ending up winning one of them, goes to show that Arsenal are ambitious, and they could well be the team to beat in the Premier League for the next few years.

So, for Guimarães, joining Arsenal, on paper at least, seems like a very easy and very logical decision.

Guimarães' qualities as a football player also fit Arsenal's needs in midfield, and Makélélé, being a midfielder himself, agrees with that.

It remains to be seen how many minutes other players like Myles Lewis-Skelly and Martín Zubimendi end up getting at Arsenal after the arrival of Guimarães, but competition is healthy at the end of the day.

It will bring the best out of the best players, and even if Guimarães keeps the starting spot, it can push players like Zubimendi and Lewis-Skelly to perform even better than they did this season.

Obviously, it can go in the opposite direction as well, but Arsenal would hope that such a healthy dressing room would not let that happen.

Arteta being at Arsenal for as long as he has also has a really positive impact because every player builds a relationship and a bond with a manager who has been there for so long, and it's really important to keep that going.

At the end of the day, Guimarães is a really good midfielder who has joined a really good Arsenal team, and they are finally identifying some of their smaller weaknesses and fixing them before next season.

Doing that will ultimately make them a better team, and that is what everyone on the red side of North London wants.
