Could Arsenal sneak back into the title race?

Arsenal remain outsiders in the title race, but Mikel Arteta's team isn't mathematically out of it yet.

Arsenal couldn't reel in Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title...could they?

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side will return from the international break 12 points behind league leaders Liverpool with just nine games to go, as for most, the league title is as good as gone.

But what if it wasn't?

Now, as things stand, that is the stuff of fantasy and dreams, but the Gunners might be able to take advantage of some cracks appearing in Liverpool's armor prior to the international break.

PSG dismantled Arne Slot's side, and then Newcastle beat them in the Carabao Cup a few days later.

Hmm, that's interesting.

Now, let's make it quite clear before we go any further. For Arsenal to win the league from here, it would need to essentially be perfect while Liverpool would have to fall into a history-making hole.

Could that really happen? We doubt it, but that doesn't mean it couldn't. As long as Arsenal is mathematically in the title race, there's a chance.

Could Arsenal really catch Liverpool?

It is a fantasy, but with the Reds having two poor losses prior to the international break, could their confidence be shaken? Possibly, but the break could have come at the perfect time for Slot's side to allow them to regroup and reset before the final portion of the league season.

Arsenal hasn't shown since January that it is a side that could mount the sort of challenge it would take to reel in Liverpool, but perhaps the Reds could be the masters of their own downfall.

With Everton up next in the league, who knows which way that one will go and for every poor result, those doubts will only increase.

Granted, the opposite is true, and given the 12-point lead at the summit, and the handful of games left, any win or point is like gold for Liverpool. So yes, it would take a herculean effort from Arsenal and a collapse of epic proportions from the Reds for this to even be a conversation.

But don't think there aren't rumblings happening of Liverpool stalling in the final run-in to the end of the season.

The two results against PSG and Newcastle could have shaken them to their core and the Gunners, while still miles behind, could be there to take advantage.

Will it happen? Likely not, but right now, Liverpool don't appear to be the invincible side they once were.
