After excitement was built up on Tuesday, various sources, including the player's agent, have rubbished talk of Benjamin Sesko joining Arsenal in the January transfer window.

While we know the Gunners require a striker and are admirers of the young Slovenian forward, it's going to take a monster proposal to prise Sesko away from RB Leipzig midway through the season. The Bundesliga club are not pushing for the league title, but the 21-year-old has a big role to play in their bid to secure Champions League football for 2025/26.

Arsenal pushed for Sesko last summer but gave up hope when the striker signed a contract extension before Euro 2024. The club then opted against making a move for alternative forward targets, with Raheem Sterling the only fresh face to arrive after Reiss Nelson joined Fulham on loan.

With Bukayo Saka out until March at the earliest and Gabriel Jesus undergoing knee surgery, the Gunners are veering into a state of desperation in regards to bolstering their attack this month.

Arsenal signing Benjamin Sesko in January is unlikely

An exclusive report dropped in the aftermath of Wednesday's North London Derby triumph, with supporters, riding a wave of serotonin having enjoyed a much-needed triumph, latching onto the promising Sesko report.

Sam C, a football news aggregator who dropped the bombshell, suggested Arsenal and Leipzig were in talks over a deal for the Slovenian international. The Gunners are keen to sign Sesko on an initial loan with a buy option in the summer, while Leipzig, if they did sell the 21-year-old this month, would only do so for an upfront fee or at least a summer obligation.

However, Sesko's agent, Elvis Basanovic, has come out on poured cold water on a loan move to north London: “I don’t know from where does this story comes. I never talked with Arsenal about loan of Šeško," he told Fabrizio Romano.

“Šeško is not a player for loans, never a topic for Arsenal or any other club."

The reputable Romano doubled down and said Sesko absolutely won't be leaving Leipzig on loan this month, and suggested that the striker would only leave for an astronomical fee. The release clause inserted in his new contract is not yet valid, so Arsenal would have to pay over the odds.

David Ornstein, who described a deal for Sesko as 'unlikely' before the exclusive report dropped, has since said in a recent interview (via kimmoFC) that Sesko is still 'not expected to move in this transfer window.'

Cheers, Orny. Way to bring down the mood. Pesky reliable journalist.
