David Raya can become the first Arsenal goalkeeper to win back-to-back Golden Glove awards if he is to keep a clean sheet during the final day matchup with Southampton.

The Spaniard has managed 13 shutouts this season and is currently tied with Nottingham Forest's Matz Sels, who will also be hunting the accolade as he looks to help his side qualify for the Champions League.

An individual award would be a great way for Raya to continue what has been an enjoyable Arsenal career so far and to achieve a club first in the process would see him written into the history books.

Raya won last season's Golden Glove award as he ended the campaign with 16 clean sheets, helping Arsenal finish second in the Premier League as the side with the best defensive record, conceding just 29 times.

This time around, he sits on 13 shutouts heading into the final day, and is in with a real chance of winning the award either outright or sharing it with Forest's formidable Sels. The Belgium international has also kept 13 clean sheets, but will be dealing with a dangerous force as his side face Chelsea at the City Ground, both fighting for the chance of finishing in the Champions League spots.

If Sels concedes against the Blues, Raya will be guaranteed to win the award, albeit sharing it, but there is no denying there will be a preference to win it outright. With Saints already relegated and fronted by the league's least threatening attack, the Gunners shotstopper will fancy his chances of being the sole winner of the award.

He would be the first Arsenal goalkeeper to win the Golden Glove award in successive seasons since it was first introduced for the 2004/05 campaign, and the first Premier League stopper to do so since Ederson in 2021/22.

Raya became the third Gunners 'keeper to win the award with his victory last season, with Wojciech Szczesny and Petr Cech the only others to do so. The now-Barcelona player won it in 2013/14 with 16 clean sheets, tied with Cech, who then achieved the same amount in his first season in north London two years later.

David Seaman ended a Premier League season as the most successful goalkeeper on two occasions, finishing both the 1993/94 and 1999-00 campaigns with 19 clean sheets. Jens Lehmann also finished as the best shotstopper after managing 15 shutouts in the famous Invincibles season. Neither were awarded for their efforts however due to it being prior to its creation.

Arsenal also look destined to finish a second consecutive campaign as the side with the best defence, having conceded just 33 times. League champions Liverpool boast the next best record, but have let in 40 goals and it is highly unlikely the Gunners will concede enough to lose out on that achievement.

With a clean sheet against Southampton, Raya can write his name into the Arsenal history books... if he hadn't done so already. His main ambition will be to help his team end the season with a win, but I'm sure he won't ignore the chance to set an individual record and achievement.
