Eberechi Eze was the star as he scored an historic hat-trick as Arsenal defeated Tottenham 4-1 to secure a huge north London derby win on Sunday.

The midfielder stole the headlines against the side he seemed destined to join in the summer, doing something not even Thierry Henry or Harry Kane could ever do - netting a treble in the heated rivalry clash.

He became the first player to score a hat-trick in a Premier League north London derby and also the first Arsenal man to do since Alan Sunderland in 1978.

Sunday 23 November 2025 is a day that Eberechi Eze will remember forever. A boyhood Arsenal fan who was released from the club's academy marking his debut season in north London with a history-making hat-trick against his side's biggest rivals.

Not only did the midfielder become the first to net a treble in a Premier League NLD, he joined an exclusive list of players to grab one in the fixture, with only three having done so previously.

The first to do it was Ted Drake in October 1934, scoring three times to help the Gunners to a 5-1 victory over Spurs. He ended the season as the league's top scorer as Arsenal won the title.

There was a long wait for the next derby hat-trick with Terry Dyson managing the feat in a 4-3 win for Tottenham in 1961.

It took a while for it to happen again until Alan Sunderland became the third man to hit three in 1978, striking thrice in an emphatic 5-0 win for the Gunners at White Hart Lane, just two days before Christmas, handing fans the perfect gift.

As the Premier League era began and greats such as Thierry Henry and Harry Kane graced the north London derby, no one could become the next player to score a hat-trick in the north London derby, until Eze 47 years after Sunderland's efforts.

Presented with the chance to extend their lead at the top of the table to six points, Arsenal hosted Spurs on Sunday afternoon and after Leandro Trossard had put them ahead, Eze ran rampant to become the fourth man to net a derby treble.

Three brilliant finishes saw him make himself the standout performer in a brilliant team showing for the Gunners. He even went close to netting a fourth late on, but was denied by a good save by Guglielmo Vicario.

Eze has now written himself into the Arsenal history books and will be hoping his hat-trick heroics will end up being crucial as his side go on the hunt for their first Premier League title in over 20 years.
