According to reports in England, former Arsenal sporting director Edu Gaspar rejected a similar offer to stay at his Emirates Stadium role.
The news has now been fully digested. Edu Gaspar is leaving Arsenal, after a successful five year stint at the club. He begun life as Arsenal's first ever technical director, but then became Arsenal's first ever sporting director.
Now, Arsenal will undergo a period of transition. They will seek the right person to come in and replace the club legend Edu, with the help of manager Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal fans do not resent Edu Gaspar. However, they might not like hearing about an offer from Arsenal which the Brazilian rejected, to favour his next role instead.
Edu Gaspar rejected a similar offer to stay at Arsenal
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Arsenal offered a new contract to Edu Gaspar after hearing about his offer from Nottingham Forest (among other clubs). It is said that Arsenal's offer was comparable to that presented by Evangelos Marinakis. However, Edu rejected this offer.
This might not be nice for Arsenal fans to hear but it does show that Edu's decision wasn't entirely money driven. He is taking the next step in his career and he would like to work in a global capacity, rather than ditching Arsenal for solely financial gain.
During his five year spell at Arsenal, Edu demonstrated a keen and knowledgable approach to improving a football club. Without a doubt, his expertise and beaming personality will be appreciated within his new network of clubs.
On the flip side, the Brazilian will be missed at Arsenal but his legacy will continue to live on. During his time, he signed many great players. But now, it is time for a new era at Arsenal, which might even work out better.
