Ethan Nwaneri has achieved stardom at the European Under-21 Championship, helping England beat Germany 3-2 in the final.

The Hale End graduate came off the bench in extra time to help his nation defeat their notorious rivals, having initially let a 2-0 lead slip in regulation time. Just moments after Nwaneri was introduced to the action, Jonathan Rowe restored England's advantage with the eventual winner.

He didn't have too much involvement throughout the tournament, but to have achieved such a tournament win at this early stage of his career is a great sign of things to come.

Nwaneri appeared in each of England's six games throughout the tournament, playing 201 minutes and managing starts in two group stage matches. While he didn't score or assist, he played a part in his side's run to the final.

His involvement in the tournament came off the back of a breakthrough season for Arsenal, in which he scored nine goals and provided two assists in 37 appearances across all competitions. He had only appeared for the Three Lions' Under-21s side twice before heading to Slovakia for the competition.

The triumph came alongside fellow Hale End graduates Omari Hutchinson, who scored England's second in the final, and Brooke Norton-Cuffy, both of whom left Arsenal over the last few years.

Nwaneri became the second player to win the European Under-21 Championship with England while an Arsenal player. Emile Smith Rowe was part of the Three Lions' tournament victory in the 2023 edition.

This win on the international stage should bode well for Nwaneri. Success with the Under-21 side has paved the way for a number of England's 2023 winners to break into the senior team and the Arsenal star could be one of the next to do so. Still just 18, he was the youngest member of the squad and has a long way to go in his international career.
