Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw by Everton in their final trip to Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

With one eye on Tuesday's Champions League meeting with Real Madrid, Mikel Arteta made five changes for the Gunners' trip to face the Toffees. Raheem Sterling was a prominent name to come into the side while captain Martin Odegaard dropped to the bench, with Jorginho taking the armband.

It was a lively start from both sides with the hosts swinging a free kick into the Arsenal area before Jordan Pickford was dispossessed by Leandro Trossard. The resulting move ended in Raheem Sterling having a shot blocked from the centre of the box.

The Gunners dominated the opening half hour but did have to fend off some pressure from Everton. A clearance from the Arsenal backline saw Sterling pick up a loose header and drive forward before playing in Trossard. The Belgian set himself before firing a neat left-footed effort past Pickford.

Everton looked for an instant response to the goal, but the Gunners saw out the pressure to go into the break with the advantage.

The hosts came out firing after half-time and hit back almost instantly from the penalty spot. Myles Lewis-Skelly was caught out letting a ball bounce and brought down Jack Harrison inside the box as a result. Despite protests that the left back was fouled first, the decision stuck and Iliman Ndiaye stepped up to score from 12 yards.

Arsenal dominated possession in the remainder of the second half, but both sides had chances to take the lead. Declan Rice was denied a free kick goal by Pickford before Merino missed a header in the closing stages. The two sides played out the final minutes to share the points.

The 1-1 draw with Everton sees Arsenal stay second in the league with a five-point advantage over Nottingham Forest ahead of the day's remaining fixtures.

Goalkeeper & Defenders

David Raya (GK) - 6.5/10 - Did not have much to do due to Everton's lack of threat in front of goal. Dealt with balls into the box well and did a good job of playing the sweeper keeper role. Did nearly get caught out in the second half when he came out his box, however, but was bailed out by Saliba. Dived the wrong way for the penalty.

Ben White (RB) - 7/10 - Made his first start in the league since November and did quite well. Got up the pitch to help out in attack but also did his defensive job, keeping the Toffees' threat down the left to a minimum. Taken off just after the hour mark.

William Saliba (CB) - 7/10 - Defended well and made a number of clearances to deal with Everton's occasional attacking threat. Got up the pitch to try cause problems from corners and did well to keep attacks alive. Recovered well after a second-half mix-up with Raya.

Jakub Kiwior (CB) - 7.5/10 - Largely solid at the back as he did what was required of him well. Made a good block to keep Everton out early on. No faults to note, but did play a true centre back's cross into the box early on.

Myles Lewis-Skelly (LB) - 6.5/10 - Dealt with the Everton pressure down the right flank well while also performing his usual drifts into midfield. Battled well with his opposite numbers and won a number of duels. Misjudged a pass before bringing Harrison down to concede a penalty. Made a brilliant run from his own half to win a free kick on the edge of the hosts' box. Withdrawn with 15 minutes to play.
